Home / Health Conditions / Supporting Someone With a Heart Condition
Caregiving for a person after a heart attack or stroke can be a stressful time. You may need to schedule and drive to medical, physiotherapy, and speech therapy appointments, arrange home care visits and do more tasks around the house.
Depending on the severity of the condition, the level of support may increase, or decrease over time.
Steps You Can Take Right Now
Encourage healthy lifestyle choices, including proper nutrition and exercise
See what home care services are available near you
Ask your doctor or occupational therapist about assistive devices such as a walker, lift, wheelchair, etc.
Write down questions to ask before appointments
Encourage the person you’re caring for to share their feelings with you. Let them know it’s OK to express their fears and concerns
